The Africa Project started out as an expedition up the east coast of Africa from South Africa to Egypt. The focus of Leg 1 of the project (which was completed from February to May 2010) was three-fold: to educate communities about water sanitation and waterborne diseases, to establish a network of churches which are trained in disaster preparedness and response, and to distribute personal, portable, point-of-source water purifiers in areas which require short-term solutions to outbreaks of waterborne diseases.
Along the way, we discovered a large number of potential water projects which were in need of assistance – both financially and physically. Without diminishing our three-fold focus from the first leg, we are therefore endeavoring to focus Leg 2 of the expedition (tentatively from January to May 2011) primarily on finding and identifying needs for water projects in rural southern and eastern Africa.
